AWC is proud to be involved in Wild Australia: After the Fires, airing on ABC &  iview on Tuesday, 1 December at 8:30pm.

AWC ecologists Eridani Mulder and Sabrina Carter are featured among the dedicated conservationists working to recover Australia’s wildlife and habitats following the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020. They are shown at South Endeavour Trust’s Bezzants Lease property, following up on ecological surveys conducted as part of AWC’s initial bushfire response.

The fires of Australia’s Black Summer are recognised as the worst wildlife disaster in modern history, killing and displacing three billion animals. Wild Australia: After the Fires, airing on ABC &  iview on Tuesday, 1 December at 8:30pm, charts the year that follows the catastrophic bushfires, examining the long-term recovery of wildlife in its aftermath through stories of hope, human intervention and resilience.

Directed by Cian O’Clery (Love On The SpectrumEmployable Me), produced and written by Karina Holden (Big Weather, Magical Land of Oz), and narrated by actor and ambassador to animal rights organisation Voiceless, Hugo Weaving, Wild Australia: After the Fires follows the hard-working carers, dedicated scientists and passionate volunteers who are immersed in the ecological recovery of Australia.

The program introduces viewers to inspiring people dedicating their time to assist wildlife survival, including Kangaroo Island residents who have spent countless hours scanning nearby bush to rescue koalas; a naturalist in NSW’s Southern Highlands who passionately monitors the local wombat population; and ecologists and scientists taking stock of which species may have survived infernos, against the odds.
